Run for the Water

23 08 2010

Let’s take a quick break from all the real estate chatter and talk about a fantastic organization that Keller Williams has teamed up with for 2010 Run For The Water event.

Gilbert’s Gazelles

This running group led by former NCAA All-American and voted by many as Austin’s favorite running coach, Gilbert Tuhabonye, is hosting an event that will benefit The Gazelle Foundation.

For years, the people of Burundi have suffered – unable to find enough clean water to wash, cook, grow crops or even drink.  The Gazelle Foundation has set out to make a difference and one way is through this event and the charitable donations of others.

Every runner who enters helps one person in the country of Burundi gain access to fresh drinking water for the rest of their life.

Not too bad, Austin!

16 08 2010

More and more people are making the move to Austin and this report is a classic example of why people are drawn to one of the country’s most promising (and interesting) places to live.

Austin Rankings for 2009-2010:

  • #1 market for Young Adults (Austin Business Journal, March 2010)
  • Voted #1 for Healthiest Housing Market (Builder Magazine, October 2009)
  • #1 city for job growth (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, June 2009)
  • #1 city in the U.S. for best economic recovery (Forbes, March 2010)
  • #8 on Best Places for Business and Careers (Forbes.com, March 2009)
  • #4 in the nation’s top economic performers, as ranked in the Best Performing Cities Index (The Milken Institute/Greensheet Real Estate Partners, January 2009)
  • #1 city for a career, based on growth, unemployment rates, average salaries, cost of living, and commute (WomenCo., May 2009)
  • One of eight ideal places for foodies to retire (Where to Retire, June 2009)

Austin is a spectacular place to live and it surely isn’t limited to these very few reasons.  This one-of-a-kind city is the only place where you can enjoy a wonderful assortment of local, South Austin favorites such as Dirty Martin’s, Polvos or Hula Hut while being only a few blocks away from the best in live music.  If you are a biking enthusiastic or triathlete, say no more: Zilker Park, Town Lake or the 360 Loop. Wait, did I mention Barton Springs and its summer selection of movie favorites?

Case and point, if you know of anyone questioning whether or not to live here, tell them to think again and then call The Oldham Group.  We will be happy to assist them on their transition to this awesome city and start the search for their next place to call home.
